'This Monument
Is Erected to the Memory of
James William Gilbart, Esq., F.R.S.
A Director of the London and Westminster Bank and for twenty five years its
General Manager
He was born on the 21st day of March 1794
And died on the 8th (?) day of August 1863.'
As this is one of the few tombs to survive at Norwood from the 1860s, the
lesson is to be rich and make sure it's too big to demolish easily!

The grave of Lucy Gallup (c.1848-1883)
Lucy Gallup died in Camberwell in 1883.
Unfortunately by the time I started to take these last photos it had started
to rain quite heavily...
'In Loving Memory of
Lucy
The beloved wife of
Henry Clay Gallup
of the United States
and Upper Norwood.'

The statue, while looking like a classical goddess, is surely meant to be of Mrs. Gallup.

A photographic plaque of Lucy Gallup, which seems pretty unusual for the period in the U.K.
