WILLIAM BABINGTON MAXWELL (1866 - 1938)

William Babington Maxwell, the son of Mary Elizabeth Braddon and John Maxwell, was born on the 4 June 1866. After training as an artist, Maxwell later became a successful novelist and also wrote a number of plays. He married Sydney Brabazon Moore, the daughter of Charles William Moore who was a relative of General Roberts, on the 25 July 1906. They had two children, Barbara (1907 - 1987) and Henry (1909 - 1996).
