Major Benjamin Flint Ambrotype

1880s or 1890s Ambrotype of a Man with a Newspaper

Men's clothes tend to be harder to date, but this is quite a late sixth plate ambrotype.
The lettering on the newspaper doesn't really show, but the letters R P O could be part of Liverpool.
Sometimes you see sellers of pictures claiming spurious resemblances to film stars etc., but I must admit I did buy this one partly because the man's pose reminded me of the splendid Denis Lill as Major Benjy in Mapp and Lucia.
