Daguerreotype of a Man with a Scroll

An early 1840s daguerreotype of a man with a scroll - perhaps an academic or a scientist.
The scroll can only be seen when the mat is removed - which I did when I resealed it.
The plate is a strange size, almost an eighth plate and square. It may be a daguerreotype of a daguerreotype, though I'm not sure.
